  • 1) What was the Titanic?
The titanic was a british passenger liner (ship/boat).


  • 2) Who built the Titanic?
It was created by Harland and Wollf, shipbuilders for White Star Line.


  • 3) When was it built?
The construction for the ship started March 31, 1909.


  • 4) How many passengers could the Titanic hold?
To meet the highest standards of luxury, the Titanic could almost hold up to 4000 people. Not including the crew members, about 833 people could stay in First class, 614 people in Second class and 1006 people could stay in Third class.


  • 5) How many decks did the Titanic have and what were they for?
The Titanic had 9 decks. The first was the boat deck which the lifeboats were housed, deck A (also called the Promenade deck) was reserved exclusively for First class and contained the First class cabins, deck B the bridge deck was the top weight-bearing deck and the uppermost level of the hull. Deck C the shelter deck, was the highest deck, deck D the saloon deck, was dominated by three public rooms-the First class reception room, the First class dining saloon and the Second class dining saloon. First, Second, and Third class passengers had cabins on this deck. Deck E the upper deck, was used for passengers accommodation and along its length ran a long passageway nicknamed Scotland road. Deck F the middle deck, was the last complete deck and mainly accommodated Second and Third class passengers, plus several departments of the crew. Deck G the lower deck, was the lowest complete deck that carried passengers and had the lowest portholes just above the waterline. The Orlop deck and the Tank Top were on the lowest level of the ship. The Orlop deck decks were used as cargo spaces, while the Tank Top (the inner bottom of the ship's hull) provided the platform on which the ship's boilers, engines, turbines and electrical generators were housed.

The Titanic was equipped with three main engines,



  • 7) How much did a ticket cost back then?
The cost for a ticket would depend on what class you were in. A First class passenger tickets cost around $2515 back then, but now about $71778. Second class people had to pay $1090 and Third class people had to pay between $587 and $754.



  • 8) Who was the captain?
The Titanic's captain was a man named Edward John Smith, the most senior of the White Star Line's captains and was transferred from Olympic (a transatlantic ocean liner) to take command of Titanic.



  • 9) How did the Titanic sink?
Late in the night on April 14, 1912, a lookout spotted a iceberg immediately ahead of the boat and alerted the bridge. The first officer ordered the ship to be steered around the ice and the engines to be put in reverse, but it was too late; the starboard side struck the iceberg, creating a series of holes below the waterline which flooded most of the lower decks and caused it to sink.




  • 10) How did the Titanic get its name?
Titanic got its name from it being a large ship, sense the name Titanic means enormous or great size.



  • 11) Were there any animals on the boat?
There were a few pets aboard the Titanic. Most were kept in deck F but some stayed with their owners in cabins. It was mostly dogs but there were also a few cats who worked to keep down the ship's population of rats and mice.




  • 12) When did the Titanic sink?
The Titanic sunk on April 15, 1912.



  • 13) How big was the Titanic?
The boat was 822 feet, 9 inches long and its total height measured from the base of the keel to the top of the bridge, was 104 feet.



  • 14) How many lifeboats did the Titanic have?
Titanic carried a total of 20 lifeboats: 14 standard wooden Harland and Wolff lifeboats with a capacity of 65
people each and 4 "collapsible" lifeboats, with a capacity of 47 people each. It also had 2 emergency cutters
(a small sailboat with multiple headsails) with capacity of 40 people each.




  • 15) How much did the ship weigh?
The great Titanic weighed about 52310 tons.
